Text and Performance Quarterly (TPQ) is an academic journal dedicated to the unity of text and performance. It explores how texts and performances constitute cultural realities, social relations, and aesthetic experiences through the creation and criticism of texts, as well as the creation and criticism of performances. The journal covers a variety of forms of literary, theatrical, everyday, cultural, and mass-mediated texts and performances, including poetry, prose, drama, oral traditions, verbal art, storytelling, and performances in television and film.
TPQ encourages interdisciplinary research and welcomes current studies from fields such as hermeneutics, performance studies, English, theater, rhetoric, media, anthropology, folklore, aesthetics, linguistics, social history, and cultural studies. In addition, the journal has paid special attention to critical theories since the 1970s, including new historicism, deconstruction, critical narratology, psychoanalysis, rhetorical hermeneutics, feminist criticism, and the application of theory.
