Politikon magazine is known for its in-depth analysis of South African politics and international relations, although its focus is not limited to that. As an academic journal, it is committed to publishing high quality research from a political economy and sociopolitical perspective, which is not limited to Southern Africa but extends to the entire African continent and to global political issues.

The journal focuses specifically on socio-political and political-economic issues in the global South, an area that covers a wide range of topics, including but not limited to development issues, inequality, social justice, and the impact of globalization on these regions. Scholars are encouraged to submit insightful scholarly articles on these issues to advance understanding of the unique political and economic phenomena of the global South. Academic works using a variety of research methods, including theoretical analysis, empirical research, case studies and comparative studies, are also welcome. These diverse research methods help to explore political, economic and social phenomena from different perspectives, providing readers with a comprehensive and in-depth analysis.
