Japan Review is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken). Since its establishment in 1990, the journal has been published annually, covering high-quality research papers on various fields such as Japanese culture, history, society, politics, and economy, as well as annotated translations of research notes, book reviews, and important literature.
The Japan Review aims to promote cutting-edge empirical and theoretical research on Japan and its position in the world, encouraging interdisciplinary and innovative approaches from various fields of humanities and social sciences. This journal is open to all scholars engaged in the study of Japanese culture, whether they are early career or established scholars, and submissions are welcome. In addition, Japan Review also pays special attention to collective interventions in methodology or themes, publishing a series of related articles in the form of special issues and specials to attract widespread attention in the field of Japanese research. All research articles must undergo a rigorous peer review process, based on initial screening by editors and anonymous double-blind review by at least two external reviewers.
