1 Seminar模式
Seminar的意思是“研討會”,英語解釋為:“Seminar is a small group of advanced students in a college or graduate school engaged in original research or intensive study under the guidance of a professor who meet regularly with them to discuss the reports and findings.”Seminar是現(xiàn)今廣泛流行于歐、美、日、澳等發(fā)達(dá)國家和地區(qū)高等學(xué)校和研究機(jī)構(gòu)的一種基本的教學(xué)科研方法,是學(xué)生為研究某一問題而與教師、專家共同討論的一種交互式教學(xué)路徑。在Seminar教學(xué)模式中,學(xué)生圍繞話題內(nèi)容做各項工作,積極參與討論,培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的自學(xué)能力、訓(xùn)練學(xué)生的口頭表達(dá)能力和提高他們的綜合應(yīng)用能力。
2 Seminar模式引入大二英語精讀課堂的可行性
Seminar教學(xué)模式適用學(xué)科廣泛,在國外的不同教學(xué)體系中廣泛應(yīng)用。我國的Seminar教學(xué)模式多用于研究生階段的研究性教學(xué),或者是某學(xué)科的專業(yè)英語課堂之中,在大學(xué)英語教學(xué)中Seminar教學(xué)模式的嘗試還較少。事實上,本科是研究型和學(xué)科型教育,在英語課堂中學(xué)生只是被動地聆聽教師精講課文,記錄一些詞句的意思是遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不夠的。本文的Seminar教學(xué)模式定位于大學(xué)二年級,這是因為學(xué)生之前進(jìn)行了一年的英語基礎(chǔ)學(xué)習(xí),掌握了基本詞匯,鞏固了語法知識。通過四級考試的學(xué)生傾向于提高自己的聽說能力,以及自身語言應(yīng)用能力,而且學(xué)生已經(jīng)互相熟悉,消除了陌生感和膽怯心理,上臺發(fā)言能夠更加自如。
Seminar模式的基本形式是每個學(xué)生準(zhǔn)備一個談話內(nèi)容,并就這個內(nèi)容做好充分的準(zhǔn)備,包括查尋有關(guān)資料,準(zhǔn)備演講材料和可能碰到的問題,學(xué)生將自己準(zhǔn)備好的話題進(jìn)行陳述,并回答和解釋其他學(xué)生的問題和質(zhì)疑。這種教學(xué)不同于學(xué)生被動學(xué)習(xí)的傳統(tǒng)模式,把英語學(xué)習(xí)主動權(quán)交給學(xué)生,能夠提高學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)熱情,促進(jìn)英語教學(xué)工作。同時,Seminar模式不僅要求學(xué)生能聽得懂、讀得懂,還要求他們講得明、寫得好,彌補了傳統(tǒng)講授法的不足,從整體上發(fā)展學(xué)生的四種基本能力,促進(jìn)聽、說、讀、寫、譯各項技能協(xié)調(diào)發(fā)展。在完成Seminar的任務(wù)中,學(xué)生利用課外時間完成大量的工作,共同討論問題,培養(yǎng)和訓(xùn)練學(xué)生探索問題和解決問題的能力。
總之,Seminar模式使學(xué)生自然而然地運用科學(xué)研究的方法,經(jīng)歷科學(xué)研究的過程,培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的科研能力,這對學(xué)生高年級的專業(yè)學(xué)習(xí)很有幫助,它被引入到本科英語教學(xué)中具有現(xiàn)實意義。
3 Seminar模式教學(xué)實踐
課前準(zhǔn)備 在大二新學(xué)期一開始就將全班學(xué)生分成幾組,每組選組長一名,組長負(fù)責(zé)安排、協(xié)調(diào)各組員的具體任務(wù)。在課本新單元學(xué)習(xí)前一周,教師根據(jù)單元教學(xué)內(nèi)容擬定相關(guān)的主題,告之并引導(dǎo)學(xué)生提前閱讀教材,搜集并整理與文章內(nèi)容有關(guān)的信息資料,鼓勵學(xué)生發(fā)散性思維,暢所欲言,提煉自己小組的觀點,并形成文字材料。
例如,學(xué)校精讀課上使用的是上海外語教育出版社的教材《全新版大學(xué)英語》綜合教程,在講授第一單元課文“Mr. Doherty Builds His Dream Life”時,筆者就擬定了一個相關(guān)主題“City life vs. Country life”,要求學(xué)生查找資料,對兩種生活方式進(jìn)行對比。
Seminar模式強調(diào)學(xué)生的自主型學(xué)習(xí),將傳統(tǒng)的“講授式”課堂轉(zhuǎn)化為“講授+討論式”二元結(jié)構(gòu)模式。在Seminar模式的課堂中,筆者并不是一開始就滔滔不絕地講“城市生活和鄉(xiāng)村生活”,而是將這個話題拋給學(xué)生,讓學(xué)生利用課外時間分工合作,主動地去收集相關(guān)的背景材料。學(xué)生由單詞到詞組、由短語到句子,最后把手頭的資料進(jìn)行分類整合,討論形成該組的發(fā)言報告。除了文字材料,學(xué)生還被鼓勵查找圖片,插入音樂、聲音,下載視頻,制作成生動活潑的PowerPoint進(jìn)行展示。這一系列的活動鍛煉了學(xué)生的動手能力,在完成英語任務(wù)的同時也提高了他們的電腦應(yīng)用水平。
可以看出,Seminar模式的核心內(nèi)容是教師以培養(yǎng)學(xué)生實踐運用能力為主旨,訓(xùn)練學(xué)生進(jìn)行研究式學(xué)習(xí),培養(yǎng)學(xué)生合作互助精神,在完成任務(wù)的同時學(xué)會英語思維。
